Job Description for Operations Manager

Summary

Coordinate with SVP, Chief Operating Officer, and SVP, Chief Lending Officer in implementing and carrying out bank policy & procedures with respect to overall operations of the bank. Supervise and administrate the activities of the deposit operations and loan operations departments to ensure policies and procedures are followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working knowledge of back-office deposit processes including but not limited to ACH, wires, debit cards, exception items processing, fraud research, garnishment/levy and subpoena request requirements, CD/IRA compliance, and online banking/cash management.
  • Working knowledge of documenting commercial, consumer, and mortgage loans.
  • Ensure adequate processes, procedures, and workflows are in place to meet business and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies, develops, and recommends revision of internal standards and new programs to improve efficiency.
  • Ensures quantifiable measurements are in place to evaluate overall production levels.
  • Provides staff with clear, concise written guidelines and minimizes losses through effective internal controls.
  • Facilitate the training and development of bank staff in operational procedures and customer service.
  • Implement and monitor compliance with bank policies and federal regulations to mitigate risks.
  • Provide department leadership recommendations, improved processes, and enhancements to operational workflow, project management, and software systems through evaluation, research efforts, and analysis.
  • Comply with all bank policies, regulations, and laws applicable to carrying out duties and responsibilities.
  • Back up liaison for the Compliance department.

Required/Desired Education, Training, and/or Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent required, with additional related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Five years or more experience within a financial institution is required. A thorough knowledge of deposit and loan operations, along with a strong knowledge of governmental regulations surrounding both areas.
    • A minimum of five years of supervision experience is required, and ten years is preferred.

Technical Skills Needed

    • Knowledge and experience operating a computer, calculator, and other general office equipment.
    • Excellent social and communication skills:
      • Use professional and clear verbal communication skills.
      • High-quality writing skills, using accurate word usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation in all written correspondence.
      • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
      • Use professional phone etiquette, including tone and volume of voice.

Mental Effort Needed

    • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced, changing environment and maintain a commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
    • Ability to follow policies, procedures, and written instructions, as well as verbal instructions or directions from his/her supervisor.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to get along well with coworkers and to work as part of Eastern Michigan Bank’s team, working towards the Bank’s goals set forth by its Board of Directors.
